An Experiment with the Project-based Approach to Physics Teaching at Wroclaw University of Technology

This article describes an experiment with project-based approach to teaching. Firstly, the review of achievements of physics education research, which have been taken into account in the course design, is given. Then the project tasks and chosen students’ reports are presented and commented. Finally, conclusions are drawn based on the observations, interviews and student opinions. The comparison of project-based teaching with traditional approach is performed. Particularly it is shown that the projectbased learning can enhance students’ understanding and connect physics concepts with the real world. However, with this approach the range of topics included in the course is narrowed. The ways to achieve a compromise are discussed.
